BLOG How ESG Reports are Transforming the Data Centre Industry Sep 12, 2025 STT GDC India SHARE Link copied! Environmental, Social, and Governance, or ESG, is one of those frameworks that help companies carry out their business ethically while also ensuring long-term value. It encompasses the actions taken by a business to maintain ethical governance, lessen its effects on the environment, and be serviceable to society. ESG reports are shared by companies on the basis of their actions, progress, and commitments in these areas to render transparency to the stakeholders and build accountability towards a sustainable, inclusive, and well-governed future. Data centre demand for processing power, storage, and network infrastructure has been growing at an unprecedented rate with the advent of AI, machine learning, and hyper-connectivity in the digital economy of India. This rapid growth presents urgent issues of escalating energy consumption, burdened grid capacities, and escalated environmental impacts at times when climate records are being broken globally. The need to balance technological advancement with environmental responsibility, social equity, and sound governance has never been more urgent. Our goal at STT GDC India is to create a sustainable digital future in which the advancement of the ESG agenda for responsible growth and our leadership in data centre services coexist harmoniously. We are steadfast in our commitment to striking a balance between people, the environment, and profits as we move into the next stage of digitally enabled growth, which will be fueled by the quick development of AI. We recognise that economic, social, and environmental sustainability are essential for the success of business and technology. This idea motivates us to take the lead in creating resilient, sustainable digital infrastructure for a brighter future. Environment On an environmental note, we are taking action to decarbonise our data centre operations. As data volumes skyrocket and computing demand is on the rise, the need for faster and more powerful infrastructure has to be met with a sudden surge in decarbonisation efforts. Since our operations directly affect the environment as a major enabler of the digital ecosystem, responsible action is crucial. Despite growing our data centre footprint, we have reduced our carbon intensity by 36.7% from FY 2021, which is in line with our objective of having carbon-neutral data centre operations by 2030. Furthermore, we are strengthening our environmental commitment by utilising renewable energy through PPAs, Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), and green tariffs. We are also focused on greening new construction and employing advanced liquid cooling technologies for enhanced efficiency. Social At the core of STT GDC India's operations are people. We place the health, safety, and wellbeing of every person in our facilities as our priority, and we strive daily to foster a diverse and inclusive culture. Our emphasis on creating a positive, empowering work environment enables our teams to thrive and contribute significantly. This strategy has resulted in more than 19 million safe working hours without any fatalities, which is proof of our uncompromising safety standards. Because of our efforts to create a more inclusive and balanced work environment, we are proud that women make up over 20% of our workforce. Governance Ethical excellence and corporate integrity are essential components of our business operations. We are committed to upholding the greatest standards of governance and ethical behaviour in order to preserve openness, responsibility, and confidence in all of our operations. In line with this commitment, we thoroughly screen 100% of our suppliers during the pre-qualification process to make sure they are abiding by our Code of Conduct. By incorporating these principles into all facets of our business operations and making an impact on our wider ecosystem, we continue to raise the bar for corporate governance and moral behaviour. The iComply platform, our strong compliance framework guarantees compliance with more than 7,500 federal and state regulations, reducing risk and fostering operational excellence in the fields of finance, labour, IT, and the environment. ESG Report – A Transformational Tool Every action demonstrates our dedication to long-term impact, from decarbonising our facilities to assembling a diverse workforce and guaranteeing ethical supply chains. In this journey, ESG reporting serves as a vital transformation tool. Converting sustainability objectives into quantifiable, transparent results, not only guarantees accountability but also promotes advancement. Beyond merely complying with regulations, ESG reporting helps us raise the bar, involve stakeholders, and create a robust, forward-thinking company. Most importantly, ESG reporting drives strategic advantage. Data centre operators like us can use it to meet growing customer expectations, unlock efficiencies, attract responsible capital, identify risks early, and stay ahead of the competition in a market where sustainability credentials are becoming more and more important to business decisions. ESG reports are influencing the next phase of data centre expansion in this way, making it more resilient, accountable, and future-ready. Conclusion At STT GDC India, we understand that significant change cannot occur in a vacuum. Being a pioneer in the data centre sector, we set the standard for the ecosystem as a whole. We are enhancing our own business resilience and motivating partners, clients, and stakeholders to strive for sustainable, responsible growth by integrating ESG principles into every facet of our strategy and operations. Together, we must work to create a more sustainable and inclusive digital future, and we are honoured to be at the forefront of this movement through openness, cooperation, and creativity.
